Advocacy and Partnerships Manager

Feed the Truth, a new and growing nonprofit that works to realize a healthier, more just food future, is seeking its first Advocacy and Partnerships Manager to play a lead role in advancing advocacy and campaign priorities as well building key partnerships that will be critical to our overall success. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team in the early stages of our development and be a part of ensuring our work is strategic and prioritizes partnerships as a lead approach to achieving our mission. We’re looking for candidates with experience building relationships and a drive to big change in the world, especially for the communities that face a disproportionate burden of corporate abuse.

About Feed the Truth:

Feed the Truth seeks to be a force for food system change working to hold the powerful to account and create a healthier and more just world. Feed the Truth was seeded by Daniel Lubetzky—a philanthropist and entrepreneur best known for creating the snack company KIND—with the goal that organization would “hold all of us in the food community accountable for what we say and claim” and counteract the food industry’s undue influence in shaping policy and science.  Mr. Lubetzky’s ten-year $25 million funding commitment to Feed the Truth is unique in that it enables the organization to build and sustain a strong foundation from which it can take risks and help contribute to and grow a movement for a healthier, fairer food system that works for people and not just profit. 

Feed the Truth works to get Big Food to make big change through smart campaigns, shareholder advocacy, a partnerships-first approach and strategic research and analysis to create greater corporate transparency and accountability. Our work is centered around and informed by the people who are feeling the impacts of a food system gone awry. It is also driven by the urgency of this political and cultural moment and the need to transform an exploitative and racially unjust food system.

Position Summary

As the Advocacy and Partnerships Manager, you will play a lead role in developing and implementing advocacy and campaign initiatives in close partnership with experts, organizations, and coalitions that advance Feed the Truth’s strategic priorities and goals. You will develop and execute program ideas, research projects and partnerships that support Feed the Truth’s work to change food industry practices that perpetuate unhealthy, inequitable and unsustainable food environments. You will partner closely with Feed the Truth’s Programs and Research Director and Executive Director to develop partnerships and initiatives designed to reduce the food industry’s harmful impacts.

Your responsibilities will include:

Advocacy, Program and Research 

  • Working with the Executive Director, the Program and Research Director and other organizational leads to set advocacy and campaign priorities and implement them; 
  • Helping to draft, edit, and/ or proof advocacy and campaign-relevant materials around FTT’s issue areas;
  • Building a plan, creating a vision, and driving outreach and relationship-building to advance food industry accountability; 
  • In conjunction with other team members, writing and drafting original reports, issue briefs, and outside publications, including in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Monitoring news, academia, and trade publications to provide analysis and help seize media and campaign opportunities;
  • Supporting the Program and Research Director and the wider organization in developing research and analysis at the intersection of inequality, political interference and corporate power. 

Partnerships and Campaign Impact

  • Developing and cultivating partnerships with key grassroots organizations, labor organizations, investors as well as social justice, and community groups; 
  • Building relationships with policy, advocacy and campaign organizations, investors, thought-leaders and influencers in the field;
  • Collaborating with other organizations to amplify campaign and advocacy efforts; 
  • Representing FTT in coalitions of other organizations; 
  • Helping develop funding partnerships to expand FTT’s impact and supporting new and developing initiatives;
  • Representing FTT as a spokesperson necessary to promote the team’s strategic priorities and campaigns;
  • Helping evaluate, refine and strengthen program strategy and accelerate progress towards goals and outcomes;
  • Working with team members to ensure effective implementation of strategy and deployment of capacity (staff and key consultants).


Key skills, experience, and attributes. You have: 

      At least eight years of experience in advocacy, policy work, and/or building partnerships and coalitions for social change;

      A passion for building a sustainable and equitable food system, with a deep commitment to advancing racial equity;

      Experience working on social and environmental issues such as climate change, human rights, civil rights or on corporate or political accountability campaigns;

      Strong research, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills;

      Experience training and managing staff;

      Strong interpersonal skills. You build trusted relationships with external partners, thought-leaders, influencers, and subject matter experts and can approach and engage communities doing related advocacy work humbly and with a posture of learning;

      Proven ability to work and lead in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment; 

  • A commitment to people and communities facing the greatest injustices and disparities due to food industry abuses;
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy.

Preferred skills, qualities and attributes: 

      Experience working to hold corporations directly accountable to the communities most affected by corporate abuses;  

  • A master’s degree in political science, public policy, economics, public health, or other relevant field is a plus;
  • Willingness to engage on and become immersed in issues at the intersection of food and corporate power, equity, health, climate, and democracy;

      Ability to work both as a self-starter and as part of a growing, collaborative team.

Details: This position is remote but we have a preference for candidates based in the Washington, D.C area. We will consider candidates based in the U.S. who are near a major travel hub and can travel easily. You will report to our Director of Program and Research and partner closely with our Executive Director. 

Salary and benefits: The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 per year and the salary offered will be dependent on market factors and the candidate’s professional experience and capabilities. This is a full-time, exempt position.
